The 1955 Climens has a pretty bouquet with scents of dried mango, quince, dried hay and grilled hazelnut. There is fine delineation though it does miss the intensity of the 1953. The palate is medium-bodied with a viscous entry. There is clearly admirable weight and concentration with notes of apricot, marmalade and coconut. It become spicier with aeration with a touch of ginger, a little feral but with good length. Excellent. Tasted November 2009 at the Château Climens vertical in Zurich.

Bordeaux

Red Bordeaux, globally renowned, is crafted in France’s Bordeaux region from grapes like Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, and Cabernet Franc. These full-bodied wines feature dark fruit flavours, earthy and spicy notes, and often benefit from ageing. Top producers include Château Margaux, Château Latour, and Château Lafite Rothschild. White Bordeaux, made from Sauvignon Blanc and Sémillon, offers styles from crisp to rich, with citrus and tropical notes. Sweet Bordeaux wines, like Sauternes, are famed for their rich sweetness and flavours of apricot and honey, with Château d’Yquem as a leading producer.
